Roleplaying, for me, is a hobby that is immense fun, but is greatly misrepresented to most of the public who either have no idea what it's all about, or have deluded concepts of what it's all about until they try it out for themselves. If you're reading this and you have no idea what roleplaying is all about you might want to go read another section of this website, but come back and check this out another time when I've had time to start writing articles on what roleplay is, etc. In the meantime, you may want to check out these pages anyway, and see what all the fuss is about. Maybe something will grab your attention and make you want to know more.

What is roleplaying?

Here's the best way to describe it without sounding too pretentious: Imagine your favourite film series or TV show. Now imagine controlling your favourite character from this film or show and taking them on a new adventure. Your friends take on the roles of the other main characters in the show and then you have one of your friends create the adventures and play all the characters you encounter. This is roleplaying in a nutshell except that the worlds don't need to be based on something from a film or TV or book. I could go into a lot more detail on how it works but just about any roleplaying book has a section that explains what roleplaying is from the point of view of players and the GM.
